About NBAA
Background
The NBAA Awards are a partnership of industry, education, local and state government and decision makers across Melbourne’s north and essential events for those seeking to do business in the region. They will recognise the business achievements of SMEs in the northern region of Melbourne. The awards will foster and encourage businesses in the region to achieve business excellence, growth and competitiveness.
Geographically, the regional coverage of the NBAA Awards encompasses the LGAs of Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Moreland, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and Yarra.
Melbourne’s north currently has a population of nearly 800,000 people as per 2006 Census. The region is a critical sector for the Victorian and Australian economy and is expected to grow by about 250,000 people over the next 20 years. Melbourne’s North comprises over 69,000 businesses and is a region of high importance for the Victorian Government due to the high concentration of businesses and contribution to State GDP.
NBAA Vision
The Vision is to establish the NBAA in order to provide a high profile forum to enable regional business networking for the exchange of knowledge, ideas and the recognition of achievement. The objectives for doing so in Melbourne’s north are:
- To provide a forum for local companies to present their excellence and professionalism
- To recognise and reward outstanding achievement in business
- To support and encourage businesses to share strategies that will lead to growth opportunities for other businesses in the region
- To present case studies that explain how to identify and overcome business weaknesses and achieve improved competitiveness
- To create a more cohesive and connected business community in Melbourne’s north and:
- Improve regional competitiveness
- Increase innovation
- Increase exports
- Increase business productivity
- Recognise the talents of individuals in business
- Increase regional GDP and employment
- Increased uptake of Victorian Government business programs and initiatives
- Share best practice in business excellence
- Motivate business owners to act to address weaknesses and create opportunities
Why the awards have been established
The purposes of the Melbourne’s north Business Awards program will be to identify, acknowledge and promote the achievement of business excellence and outstanding companies in the northern region of Melbourne. The Awards will identify cutting edge businesses; leaders in their fields and award winning businesses in their industry sector. They will be businesses that have made a major contribution to an economically sustainable economy; to the community and to the development of employment skills for the next generation.
This approach will also act as a catalyst for alerting and informing large numbers of forum business participants that identifying and addressing business operational and management weaknesses will generate significant benefits in terms of business survival; improved competitiveness; and business growth.
